GPT Image 2 is OpenAI's image model: it draws from a text prompt and edits pictures you send it. Unlike older image models it is not priced per picture but per token, like a text model - the prompt (and any image you send) is input, the generated picture is output. A bigger or more detailed picture is more output tokens, so it costs more. The tables below are rebuilt from today's prices on every page view.
The price in one line
In the 16 October 2026 collection most providers listed GPT Image 2 at $5 per 1M input tokens and $30 per 1M output tokens - OpenAI's own price, passed on unchanged by Azure, Vercel, AIHubMix, Jiekou and Impossibl. The output side is what you pay for: the prompt is a few hundred tokens, the picture is thousands.

- Cheapest: CometAPI listed $4 / $24 - a fifth below OpenAI's price.
- Dearer: DigitalOcean and FastRouter charge $8 for input (output unchanged at $30); Poe is slightly above $5 / $32.
- Per picture: Empirio Labs sells it at about $0.012 per image instead of per token - read its terms for size and quality before comparing.
The GPT Image family side by side
The typical price per 1M tokens, input / output, on 16 October:
- GPT Image 1 Mini - $2 / $8. The cheap one, for drafts and thumbnails.
- GPT Image 1 - $5 / $40. The first version; output is a third dearer than GPT Image 2.
- GPT Image 1.5 - $5 / $32.
- GPT Image 2 - $5 / $30.
- GPT Image 2.5 (Flare, Sunburst) - $5 / $30 at Vercel and Impossibl, $4 / $24 at CometAPI. So the newer model is not the dearer one: moving from GPT Image 1 to 2 lowers the output price by a quarter.

How to choose
- Product pictures, illustrations, editing: GPT Image 2 at the provider you already use - most sell it at OpenAI's price.
- Many cheap drafts: GPT Image 1 Mini, at about a quarter of the output price.
- Still on GPT Image 1: the same input price, a lower output price on 2.
- Comparing a per-image price with a per-token one: count the output tokens of one of your own pictures first - size and quality change it several times over.
